Disaggregating Multi-State Appliances from Smart Meter Data
نویسنده
چکیده
Smart electricity meters record the aggregate consumption of an entire building. However, appliance-level information is more useful than aggregate data for a variety of purposes including energy management and load forecasting. Disaggregation aims to decompose an aggregate signal into appliance-by-appliance information. Existing disaggregation systems tend to perform well for single-state appliances like toasters but perform less well for multi-state appliances like dish washers and tumble driers. In this paper, we propose an expressive probabilistic graphical modelling framework with two main design aims: 1) to represent and disaggregate multi-state appliances and 2) to use as many features from the smart meter signal as possible to maximise disaggregation performance.

Towards Bridging the Gap Between the Smart Grid and Smart Energy Consumption
Smart meters report power usage at 15 minute intervals and, compared to monthly power bills, provide the users with a much finer resolution time series of energy usage. However, apart from identifying times of peak energy usage, these smart meters provide little actionable data for the user in terms of reducing their power costs. Our research involves the development of an intelligent metering ...
متن کاملAn unsupervised training method for non-intrusive appliance load monitoring
Non-intrusive appliance load monitoring is the process of disaggregating a household’s total electricity consumption into its contributing appliances. In this paper we propose an unsupervised training method for non-intrusive monitoring which, unlike existing supervised approaches, does not require training data to be collected by sub-metering individual appliances, nor does it require applianc...

Despite the profusion of NIALM researches and products using complex algorithms, addressing the market for low cost, compact, real-time and effective NIALM smart meters is still a challenge. This paper talks about the design of a NIALM smart meter for home appliances, with the ability to self-detect and disaggregate most home appliances. In order to satisfy the compact, real-time, low price req...

In this paper we employ smart meter and support vector machines (SVM) for the problem of recognizing household appliances’ load patterns in measured load time series, which is an important step for various applications in energy consulting, process recognition or health care applications. We present an automated data collection and preprocessing approach that intrinsically avoids many privacy (...
